GeoEnvironmental was asked to help mitigate a planning condition for a 1 hectare light industrial site for redevelopment for residential use. The developer had submitted a desk study with the planning application which was not sufficient to demonstrate to the planners that the site did not have a contamination linkage. We provided a site reconnaissance visit and conducted a preliminary risk assessment which enabled us to demonstrate that the site did not pose a risk to any receptors. However, as material was going to be removed from site we conducted WAC tests on three samples of waste material and these confirmed that there was no contamination and excess material could be disposed to an inert landfill site. Testing also helped provide support for the WRAS water pipe assessment which we conducted on behalf of the client.
